When the love of his life walks out the door, the song’s protagonist blames himself: “I missed the point, I missed the signs/ So if she’s gone, the fault is mine.”
Speaking to Nashville Songwriters Association International’s Bart Herbison, Burr says he’s heard from plenty of listeners who have found themselves in those shoes.
